Denton True "Cy" Young (March 29, 1867 – November 4, 1955) was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher. Born in Gilmore, Ohio , he worked on his family's farm as a youth before starting his professional baseball career.

The Cy Young Award is given annually to the best pitcher in each league. From its establishment in 1956 until 1966, it was presented to the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. Since 1967, there is one winner from each of the American and National leagues.
