Following a report of a house fire in South Jersey, a Burlington County man was killed after allegedly shooting at police on Saturday evening.

PEMBERTON TWP. — An investigation is underway into afatal police shooting here. The state Attorney General’s Office has released few details about the incident, saying only that the victim, a man, was fatally shot in the Browns Mills area on Saturday.

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Authorities in Burlington County are investigating a shooting that broke out after emergency crews were called to a house fire on Saturday. Firefighters were initially dispatched to a home on the unit block of Woodland Avenue in Pemberton Township around 4 p.m. for reports of a fire.

Roads were closed for a major police response in Pemberton Township Saturday when what began as a fire in the Burlington County community, turned into a chaotic active shooter incident. Jasmin Taylor lives on Woodland Avenue and says the active shooter incident happened two doors away.

It happened Saturday in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township. Authorities say a firearm was discovered next to the male victim.

The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department has been battling a forest fire for more than ten hours, leaving heavy smoke in the area. Burlington firefighters and emergency medical crews shared that they had been battling an overnight forest fire in the areas of Burlwood Dr.
