A Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) outbreak in Pune, affecting 140 people, could have been contained within four days if adequate health measures were taken, according to virologist Dr T Jacob John. Key steps include prompt reporting,

The most common symptom is tingling or weakness in arms and legs. It affects muscle control and sensory signals and can begin as difficulty in walking, heaviness of legs, difficulty in sitting or getting up or turning in bed, falls (due to marked weakness), difficulty in using hands.

Cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) are on the rise, triggering concern among health officials. As of January 29, a total of three GBS-suspected deaths have been reported in West Bengal, with over 120 cases of the rare autoimmune disease detected in Maharashtra.

The patient's health deteriorated, and he passed away on January 30, 2025, according to a press note issued by the health department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on Friday.
