This will be the ninth head coach for Jones since he purchased the team in 1989 and fired the legendary Tom Landry, who coached the Cowboys for 29 years since the team's inception. Jones hired Jimmy Johnson away from Miami and they won a pair of Super Bowls together.

ESPN's Dan Graziano believes the Cowboys will go in a different direction. The NFL insider offered his predictions for the coaching carousel and has the Cowboys hiring the team's former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who held the role from 2019 to 2022. The assistant coach is now the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator.

When the NFL regular season comes to a close, it sends the head-coaching carousel into high gear. The 2025 cycle is in full swing and began with six openings across the NFL. One of those has since been filled with the New England Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel to lead the franchise after moving on from Jerod Mayo after one season.
