Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags at state buildings to be at full-staff for President-elect Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20 despite a 30-day mourning for Jimmy Carter.

President Jimmy Carter’s mourning period will be on hold Monday, as Donald Trump gets sworn in for a second term. And to celebrate that “patriotic occasion,” Gov. Ron DeSantis is ordering flags in the state to be lifted back up to full-staff on Inauguration Day.

Flags across the state of Florida are expected to be flown at full staff on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, for the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has ordered all flags at state buildings in Florida to fly to their full height for Inauguration Day, pausing a 30-day flag-lowering order.

There are still two weeks to go in the mourning period for former president Jimmy Carter, when American flags are directed to be flown at half-staff.

"Our nation's flag will be prominently displayed at full-staff to honor the tradition of our founding fathers," he said in a memo.

Flags across the U.S. are currently at half-staff in recognition of the death of former President Jimmy Carter. DeSantis’ move to briefly raise the flags on Jan. 20 at the Florida Capitol and other state buildings mirrors decisions made by governors in several other states following complaints from Trump.
