EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - No. 2 Michigan State scored four goals in both the second and third periods to post a 9-3 victory over No. 4 Minnesota in a battle of the Big Ten’s top teams. MSU (20-3-2, 11-2-2) had eight players with multiple-point nights, including two-goal scorers Isaac Howard and David Gucciardi.
What a statement win by No. 2 Michigan State hockey on Friday against against No. 4 Minnesota. The Spartans took down the Golden Gophers 9 to 3 in an absolute blowout in Munn Arena. This was a massive win by the Spartans who were just one point ahead of Minnesota in the conference standings heading into this game.
Michigan State lost its top spot in the USCHO poll after an overtime loss to Michigan last week. The Spartans fell just one spot and still earned 13 first-place votes. They'll have quite the matchup this week as Minnesota visits for a two-game set.
