The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) reached a tentative agreement with Providence Health following a strike, promising better wages and benefits.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Providence Health & Services and the union representing nearly 5,000 of its nurses have reached a tentative agreement amid a weeks-long strike.

The sellout contract, the result of the ONA’s meeting with Oregon Governor Tina Kotek three weeks ago, was resoundingly voted down by 83 percent.

For the second time since Providence nurses launched their strike more than a month ago, the union and healthcare system have reached a tentative deal. On Friday afternoon, the company announced that both parties’ bargaining teams tentatively agreed on a contract after three days of “intensive bargaining facilitated by federal mediators.

Providence and the union representing its striking nurses will resume in-person talks for the first time since the two sides reached an ill-fated agreement nearly two weeks ago, the Oregon Nurses Association said Monday.

The union representing nearly 5,000 Providence nurses who have been on strike for six weeks has reached a tentative contract deal, for a second time.

Oregon's largest hospital system cited the length of the strike in a notice to nurses who've walked out from eight hospitals. The union accused Providence of delaying after members voted down a tentative deal.
