Pacific Palisades appeared more like a moonscape of destruction than an upscale neighborhood known for its ocean views, beautiful vistas and celebrity denizens.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 19,978 acres after being active for two days. A crew of 3,073 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 6% of the fire by Thursday evening. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Tens of thousands have fled their homes as a brush fire in the Pacific Palisades has burned nearly 20,000 acres as of Thursday. Fire crews are actively working stop forward progress of the flames, which is currently 6% contained.

Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate the Los Angeles area as wildfires continue to tear through the region.
