When two of the five best pound-for-pound fighters in the world met last Saturday in the first four-belt, undisputed clash in 175-pound history, the expectations were heavy that Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol would combine to showcase the very best of what boxing has to offer.

Historically, the middleweight showdown between Marvin Hagler-Sugar Ray Leonard was the most hotly debated result in recent memory, and still is even today. More recently, the Ring lightweight championship fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko-Devin Haney polarized opinions, and on Saturday Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol joined the list.

For years, boxing fans had waited to see Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol share the ring to crown an undisputed light heavyweight champion. The fight finally happened Saturday in Saudi Arabia with Beterbiev edging out a majority decision in a  fantastic tactical battle that saw momentum swing several times throughout the 12 rounds.

Bivol was class in defeat, as expected, and praised Beterbiev; they had shared a unique respect for each other during the months and months it took to finally get the pair in the ring. They had also shared six years and nine months as world champions before the final bell separated Bivol from his belt.
