Morning and welcome to our upates as heavy snow has swept in across the North East and Cumbria overnight. The amber warning for snow from the Met office started at 21:00 last night and remains in place throughout Sunday. We'll be keeping you up to date with the latest information and updates.

After the Met Office issued an Amber weather alert for snow and ice, and warned of a dangerous weather phenomenon, some parts of the region could be hit with up to 40cm of snow. It comes after the Met Office upgraded their weather warning for the North East, warning of heavy snow.

Heavy snow and freezing rain has brought widespread disruption across the U.K. with several major airports forced to suspend flights and many roads in the north of England unnavigable

East Midlands Railway (EMR) says there is disruption across multiple routes due to flooding this morning. The line between Derby and Long Eaton is currently closed and heavy rain has shut the line between Grantham and Nottingham.
