The Karnataka government will impose a new cess on transactions conducted through aggregator platforms. This includes transactions on Zomato, Swiggy, Ola, Uber and similar platforms. The money that will be collected will reportedly be used for the welfare fund for gig workers.

The proposed fee will be added to the total amount of each order placed through these platforms and passed on to the welfare board

The state cabinet is expected to discuss the Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Bill on October 24 before tabling it in the winter assembly session in December.
