A Canadian “Super Scooper” aircraft fighting the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles had to be grounded after it hit a drone flying in restricted airspace over the devastating blaze on Thursday, the local fire department said.

Multiple unauthorized drones flew above the Palisades fire Friday, forcing firefighting aircraft to leave the area for safety and angering those on the front lines.

A firefighting aircraft was grounded after it was struck by a civilian-flown drone while over the Palisades Fire on Thursday. The collision, which involved a Canadair CL-415, happened at around 1 p.m.
