The Aga Khan IV has been laid to rest in Egypt in a private ceremony. The governor of Aswan welcomed Prince Karim’s family at the southern Egyptian’s provinces airport ahead of the burial service on Sunday.

The global Ismaili Muslim community witnessed a historic and deeply significant moment today as Shah Rahim Al-Hussaini, Prince Aga Khan V, formally ascended to the office of Imamat as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims.

Hussaini, will oversee the plans to open the million-dollar Ismaili Muslim community hub after his father's recent passing.

Last week, Prince Rahim al-Hussaini ’95 was named the spiritual leader of millions of Ismaili Muslims after his father, the former leader, passed away on Feb. 4. Al-Hussaini is now Aga Khan V, a title given to the 50th imam of the Nizari Ismaili branch of Shia Islam.

Hussaini, the new spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims, was named as the successor to his father, who died at 88.

According to a statement issued by the community, in 2018, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV designated the Henrique de Mendonça Palace, Lisbon, as the seat of the Ismaili Imamat, to be known as the “Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat”. The term Diwan is an Arabic, Indian, and Persian term that means the court or chief administrative office of the Imam.

Ismaili Muslim leaders swore allegiance Tuesday to Prince Rahim Aga Khan V in a ceremony in Lisbon to celebrate his proclamation as imam, after the death a week ago of his father, Karim Aga Khan IV. The ceremony,
