The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay $880 million to settle more than 1,300 claims of childhood sexual abuse. The sprawling agreement is believed to be largest single child sexual abuse settlement with a Catholic archdiocese and comes after a state law provided a three-year window to revive past civil claims of sexual abuse involving minors.

Attorneys for 1,353 people who allege that they suffered horrific abuse at the hands of Catholic priests reached the settlement after months of negotiations with the archdiocese, the LA Times reported.
