Texas Parks and Wildlife has detected Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, across Texas and is urging caution to prevent spreading the disease. According to a news release, officials most recently confirmed HPAI in black vultures discovered at Landa Park in New Braunfels.

Multiple black vultures at Landa Park have died from avian flu. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Division tells us the black vultures are infected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Disease experts indicate HPAI is circulating among wild birds in Texas as waterbirds and waterfowl visit their wintering grounds.

Comal County has reported its first cases of bird flu, detected in birds found in a New Braunfels park. Preliminary tests confirmed the virus in multiple black vultures recovered at Landa Park, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced Wednesday.
