Border 2 Fire initially started 1:58 p.m. Jan. 23 in San Diego County. After being active for five days, it has burned 6,625 acres. A fire crew of 2,212 effectively contained 74% of the fire by Tuesday morning. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Containment of the Border 2 Fire in the far southern reaches of the San Diego area increased to 55% today with flames not posing any immediate threats of spreading further, according to Cal Fire.

The fire, which has been named the “Border 2 Fire,” was reported after 2:15 p.m. in the area of Otay Mountain Truck Trail in the Otay Wilderness Area. According to Cal Fire, it is currently 600 acres as of 8:13 p.m., but has a “dangerous rate” of spread. It remains 0% contained Thursday night.
